American Crystal Sugar

Project Description

American Crystal Sugar produces approximately 13 percent of the total domestic market for refined sugar. It has 5 plants in the Red River Valley that process sugar beets grown on approximately 425,000 acres. This equates to 10-12 million tons of sugar beets processed every year, producing 1.6-2.1 million tons of sugar. With only 105 days out of the year to perform factory shut-down services, Midwest Ironworks completed 37,000 hours of work within the short 105-day window.

Problem/Solution

American Crystal Sugar produces 1.6-2.1 million tons of sugar yearly, using an average of 260 days of processing time. With only 105 days left out of the year to perform factory shut-down services, Midwest Ironworks had a very short amount of time to perform capital improvements. Hiring over 50 millwrights, pipefitters, ironworkers, and welders, Midwest Ironworks completed 3 projects in one year. Over 37,000 collective hours were worked by the crew within a 105-day window. This project is just one example of one of the five American Crystal Sugar plants we service. Midwest Ironworks has completed multiple large and small-scale projects for American Crystal over the last seven years at each of its five locations.
